Blank Sailing

A blank sailing refers to a cancelled sailing. This could mean a vessel not calling a specific port, or the entire loop being cancelled. Common reasons for blank sailings are ships having to go to dry dock for maintenance or repairs, or to reduce capacity in order to create scarcity, thus driving the rates up. In recent years, carriers have been forced to create more blank sailings because of congestion issues in ports as well.
